چکیده

Pract Proced Aesthet Dent 2008;20(6):359-364 359 Digital photography has become essential in modern dentistry. In addition to providing enhanced communication between collaborating dentists, high-quality imagery can also be a valuable diagnostic tool in direct composite procedures. There are many composite systems currently available with various opacities, shades, tints, and physical properties, which can replicate almost any natural situation. As advances in material science have improved the performance of composite resins, it is the skill of the clinician that primarily influences the restorative outcome. The greatest obstacles lie in determining where to layer the various composites and envisioning the final result prior to placement. Digital photographs taken prior to and during treatment may assist the practitioner in shade selection and composite layering for natural-looking restorations.

Assessing aesthetic composite veneer placement via digital photography.

Restoring teeth using direct composite veneers can be quite challenging for a clinician. Achieving natural color blending, masking dark teeth, removing decay, and providing a natural finish require meticulous placement with various composite opacities and shades. Critical self-evaluation using digital photography, documentation, and follow-up visits to perform veneer enhancements are critical t...

The Effect of a Glass Ceramic Insert in Sandwich Technique on Microleakage in Class II Composite Resin Restorations

Introduction: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of glass ceramic insert in the sandwich technique to reduce microleakage in class II composite resin restorations. Methods: Sixty sound human upper second premolars were selected and randomly divided into six groups (n=10). Class II box-only cavities were prepared in distal aspects of each tooth with gingival margin located a...

Material Selection for Direct Posterior Restoratives

The posterior restorative material of choice depends on the individual clinical situation and patient. Amalgam has a long history of use and clinical success. Esthetic restorations are increasingly in demand, and include glass ionomers, compomers and composite resins. Fluoride release is a desirable attribute in a restorative material, as are wear resistance, low polymerization shrinkage and lo...

Microleakage Evaluation of Class II Composite Resin Restorations with Different Thicknesses of Resin-Modified Glass Ionomer

Background and Aim: One of the weaknesses of Class II composite resin restorations is gingival microleakage which contributes to postoperative sensitivity and secondary caries. The aim was to evaluate the microleakage in Class II composite resin restorations with different thicknesses of resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI). Materials and Methods: In this in-vitro study, standardized Class II s...

Bacterial Leakage Assessment for Different Types of Resin-Based Dental Restorations Applied Using Various Placement Methods

Introduction: Although composite resins have improved greatly since their introduction, microleakage is one of the most frequently encountered problems. This study compared the effects of different monomer systems and layering techniques on the bacterial leakage of Cl I composite resin restorations. Methods: Eighty-two sound human third molars were used. The teeth were randomly divided into six...
